The light doesn't erase the shadow. Someone has to listen to it.

About the founder

I'm Uncle Danny. I served in Baghdad in 2006, and when I came home, the war came with me. What finally got me through wasn't advice. It was being listened to, by my wife, by other veterans, by people who let me say the hard thing out loud. Umbra is built on that. One breath at a time. You speak, it listens, and it hands your words back gently. Start with chapter one. Say it out loud. And I thank you for trusting me with this very personal deep shadow work journey you about to embark on. Remember, one prompt at a time. If it gets too heavy, it is okay to step away and come back later. Your journal will be here when you are ready to take the next breath. Now let's get started, my friend.

Why I built Umbra

I built Umbra because the hardest things I've carried were the ones I couldn't write down. After Baghdad, a blank page felt like one more place to be alone with it.

What actually helped me was being heard: a wife who listened, veteran programs, and a lot of hard, out-loud work. Saying the thing first, then hearing it back, did what years of not-writing never could.

Umbra is my attempt to hand you a little of that. Speak the answer, hear it back, and keep going one chapter at a time. — Danny

Why Umbra exists

Umbra is a guided shadow-work journal created to help you meet the parts of yourself you've been afraid to hear. You speak your answers, the journal writes them down, and a gentle Mirror reflects back what you said. Not therapy, and not for anyone seeking a diagnosis — one small step toward the light.
